Today a woman my mom works with commissioned me to make a few bracelets for her daughter. Sounds awesome right? Welllll I haven't attempted bracelets in a long time, and her daughter seems to like a veeerrryyy specific sort of style. I'm hoping I'll be able to make something she likes as well as something I'm proud of! Wish me luck!

In Which I Buy Awesome Stuff for Very Little Money

Today I went hunting around one of my favorite thrift stores with my boyfriend looking for a cassette player to disassemble (don't ask). What we found, however, was so much better. I picked up two encyclopedias, two books about the 20's, 30's, and 40's, a book about cats, and a magazine from 1969. Sounds exciting, no? Well I guess not. But the cool part is what I plan on DOING with all of these amazing pictures and pages.

Some of the pictures in the 20's history book were just too glamorous. I couldn't resist picking it up. The ones in the encyclopedias are so vivid and detailed I just HAD to buy it. After the thrift store, we headed out to a local craft shop and picked up the modge-podge equivalent of DiamondGlaze for about five bucks. Now comes the fun stuff - taking all these materials I have just purchased and combining them with pieces I've accumulated over the years and voila! Awesome funky jewelry!

I haven't started yet, but oh man am I itching to. First I have to clean up my workspace a little, as you can see...

It's Friday!

Normally on Fridays I don’t have anything to do - no work, no classes, no nuthin’. It’s nice, because I can set up appointments for Friday and get projects done. Today however, I had an orientation for my department - Art Education. I thought it’d be boring and a waste of my Friday afternoon, but I ended up loving it. I know I’m inthe right department now and I CANNOT wait to start my new classes in the fall!

Unfortunately, I have to take literacy and math tests to qualify for my teaching license and to progress in the Art Ed curriculum. And I have to pay for them. Ick. But it’ll all be worth it in the end when I’m helping kids make stuff they enjoy!

Today I've been working on creating some pendants - not necklaces, just the pendants. This way, buyers will be able to purchase the same type of piece for cheaper and simply wear it on a chain they already own! Keep an eye out for soon-to-come pictures!

First Ever Blog Posting!

Well hello there! I'm not quite sure how you've managed to stumble across this humble little blog-o-mine, but thanks for checking it out! I'm not quite used to these blogamabob thingamadoodles, so please bear with me here. I've created this in an attempt to share my life, artwork, ideas, and jewelry designs with the world. I think I'll kick this blog off by showing the kids of things I make!

I love working with ink and watercolors! I often create my abstract ink drawings by simply spacing out and letting the lines fall where they may. I look to the people around me for inspiration.

The piece to the left is a 6 x 6 inch drawing that was inspired by a friend of mine who writes me letters. It's part of a larger series of 16 small drawings.

The photo to the bottom right is an example of the type of jewelry I design. I enjoy working with unconventional and recycled materials in my jewelry, and the necklace pendant to the right was created with "upcycled" paint swatches.

I never create the same piece of jewelry twice - each one of my pieces is absolutely one-of-a-kind! I adore bright colors and bold, graphic shapes, and many of my designs are inspired by hard-edge painters like Frank Stella and Ellsworth Kelly.
